Everyone’s looking to the moon with (NASDAQ:LUNR)

DENVER, Colo., Feb 23, 2024 (247marketnews.com) – (NASDAQ:LUNR) discussed in this article.

Day one lunar surface update is that Odysseus is alive and well. Flight controllers are communicating and commanding Odysseus to receive science data. Odysseus is upright, solar charging and transmitting telemetry.

We’ve landed on the moon, again. It’s been half a century since the last Apollo missions, and now, only one NASDAQ-listed company (NASDAQ:LUNR) has made its mark on the moon. (NASDAQ:LUNR) is firmly planted on the surface of the moon.

Currently we await the first images and possibly the first 3rd person video of a spacecraft landing on the moon.

Houston based Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ:LUNR) along with the help of SpaceX launched the mission from Kennedy Space Center February 15th 2024 atop of a SpaceX Falcon 9 that successfully put the Nova-C Lander into orbit which went on an 8 day trip to successfully get into lunar orbit, and then the lunar surface, the last time that happened for the United States was 1972.

This Odysseus spacecraft isn’t a NASA mission, it’s purely an Intuitive Machines’ mission, but is a part of the NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, which at this stage is a learning experience for NASA as well as Intuitive Machines to put cargo on the lunar surface.

NASA is using CLPS to run its own tests and science experiments for future human missions. All of this is in providing robotic landing service for Artemis missions, perhaps a lunar moon station?

It’s certain that a lunar base station, if established, would indispensably require robotic cargo capabilities, mirroring the needs of the International Space Station (ISS), with a critical emphasis on cost-effectiveness.

However, for now we await the first pictures from the lunar surface since 1972. Some might wonder why it takes a while to get images, especially video back to earth. Transmitting data over 238,900 miles (384,400 km) takes time, power, and well-aimed antennas.

Onboard the IM-1 Nova-C lander named Odysseus it can supply 200-300 watts at 28vdc over the course of the mission so it’s not a lot of power, but it can transmit at 4Mbps which is not bad. If an average photo is about 30MB, it’d take 1 minute to download, from the moon! Also, while we are on the topic, if the eaglecam CubeSat and micro-nova hopper and perhaps other sensors talk to Odysseus, which transmits it back to earth, would this not be the first Wi-Fi network on the moon?

Intuitive Machines CEO Steve Altemus will participate in a press conference later today to discuss this historic moment. Press conference information will be coordinated with NASA and published shortly on the Intuitive Machines’ website.
